La Roma
Como buena ex sureña, hasta que empecé a trabajar no conocía mucho más allá de Patriotismo. Luego se fueron abriendo nuevas zonas como Echegaray, Satélite, Lomas Verdes, Sta. Mónica por mi trabajo anterior. Hace unos meses que me volví habitante del “occidente/centro” de esta ciudad y ya no sólo por el trabajo sino por la vida diaria me he dedicado a buscar todo lo que cubre las necesidades de la casa y de nuestras barrigas en la zona comprendida, entre otras, por las colonias Condesa-Cuauhtémoc-Anzures-Polanco-Lomas-Tecamachalco. En un día entre semana parecen estar separadas por ríos de coches y horas de tráfico, pero en realidad casi todo queda a máximo 15 min en auto durante un fin de semana regular… Reconozco, ante todo, que estoy contenta y orgullosa de habernos mudado a una zona donde lo hay todo, hasta cosas de sobra que lo hacen a uno invertir tiempo que no quería “gastar” o descubrir actividades maravillosas.
Lo que ahora salta a mi vista es que ese “entre otras” incluye varias colonias que no había explorado hasta el presente año y que también tienen mucho que mostrar. Primero se dio que empezara a pasear por la Juárez. Allí vive Sergio (mi amigo y compañero de trabajo), fuimos a terminar el festejo del cumpleaños de Toño al Lipstick (Amberes casi esquina con Reforma), donde nos divertimos y bailamos mucho, hace un par de semanas visitamos a Isadora en su nuevo depa cerca de la calle de Dinamarca, en fin, varias experiencias que hablan de un rumbo muy agradable…
Cruzando Av. Chapultepec hay otra colonia que para muchos es conocidísima, pero para mí es un descubrimiento reciente: La Roma. El viernes cenamos en La Piazza, que es un café-restaurante italiano ubicado en una de las esquinas de la Plaza Luis Cabrera (por eso el nombre) sobre Guanajuato. Además de una deliciosa cena, tuvimos una vista de lujo! Terminando de cenar le dimos una vuelta a la fuente y las calles aledañas. Regresamos caminando por Orizaba que además de ser una calle pintoresca está poblada de establecimientos curiosos y/o especializados (uno en té, otro en chocolate, por ejemplo), nos dimos vuelta en Álvaro Obregón y entramos a ver una exposición de José Luis García en la Casa Lamm. Salimos de allí a a seguir recorreido un poco hasta que el cansancio de Nacho por una semana súper intensa de chamba ya era demasiado y nos fuimos a casa.
La idea de ir conociendo más la Roma se dio porque un par de semanas atrás Adán nos mostró un pequeño súper-mercado japonés donde los domingos sirven comida oriental buenísima, luego fui a la presentación del Tríptico para Juan Rulfo y finalmente tenía que hacerme unos análisis en la calle de Frontera. Si no ha sido por tanta repetición un buen rato hubiéramos seguido sin pasar de la Condesa. Este fin nos dimos cuenta de cuánto nos gustan la arquitectura, las áreas verdes, el tipo de lugares que hay, el ambiente y definitivamente seguiremos explorando más la Roma!
Tríptico para Juan Rulfo
Ayer fui con mi mamá y mi tía Martha a la presentación de Tríptico para Juan Rulfo en la Casa Universitaria del Libro. En todos sentidos este libro es la suma de muchos esfuerzos. No sólo porque es una compilación que consta de 3 frondosas y multidiciplinarias partes y como tal requirió 3 compiladores. Además, la edicón fue respaldada, entre otros, por diversos organismos de la UNAM, la Fundación Juan Rulfo por supuesto y mi alma mater la UIA.
La primera parte de este tríptico, está dedicada a la poesía. Rulfo era fanático de Rilke y en su honor realizó su propia traducción-interpretación de La elegías de Duino. Obviamente, en un día no pude leer a fondo la apreciación que él hace del contraste entre oscuridad y amor(es), pero me imagino que tendrá un toque muy especial. Viene como versión bilingüe y con muchas notas de Alberto Vital y su equipo de investigadores haciendo comparaciones con otras traducciones y análisis del poema para quién le guste entender más a fondo…
La segunda parte está compuesta por ensayos en los que se realizan análisis, desmitificaciones, interpretaciones, relatos y testimonios alrededor de Rulfo como fotógrafo. También se habla sobre ciertas fotografías inéditas como la que muestro abajo.
Por último, la tercera parte contine textos de crítica y análisis literarios sobre El llano en llamas y Pedro Páramo, así como algunas cuestiones biográficas, creados por especialistas rulfianos. La aportación de Douglas J. Weatherford fue revelada ayer por él mismo en la presentación del libro, donde demuestra de una manera muy fluida e interesante para todo público la influencia que posiblemente tuvo el personaje principal de El ciudadano Kane de Orson Wells en Pedro Páramo.

I hope that you do not receive this in the midst of your work, as I do not want to disturb your work.
So did you get chance to take a break from work this week-end, and chill out and have some fun? I had a very interesting week, as I have been in Boston, but was just so knackered this Friday evening that I spent the whole of Saturday just relaxing. I actually went to the movies, first time since February, and watched “Departed”. It was a real good movie and story - just did not like the ending. But, it was good to see Boston from ” Hollywood’s” eyes.
First of all, I did not get your full text, so I hope that I am not going off in a tangent. I understand that you think that there is no potential in us, because of the distance and your work. I believe that the potential is there, but just that distance and time is going to difficult for it to happen. And by time I mean in the big picture context of where we are in our careers / lives as opposed to making time out of a week.
When separating the “what” (potential) from the “how” (road to get there), the first step is to understand if the vision is viable. I feel like a typical consultant when I bring this, but I think that it is useful in this situation. When we talk to clients about a commitment to a change or a vision, we talk about a path that one follows to commitment - which is attached.
In fact, this is ideal for us as we have achieved a lot in our life, and each time we have accepted in the vision, and have walked the commitment path, we work our best to make it happen. The issue was that we were at different stages of this commitment curve. And, after I had accepted the vision, I think should not have informed you. Each one of us have to walk this commitment curve on our own. In fact, I think I made it worse. With every journey, there is a satisfaction of reaching the destination, which drives people to the destination, and reinforces the vision along the way. But, by already informing you what I believed, I killed the incentive for you to walk this commitment path. I should not have jumped the gun, and I wanted to apologize for it. Actually, this apology is really to the idea of “us” as opposed to either you or me, because my mistake affects the idea more at this stage.
Having met you, I knew that distance was going to be an issue. I had to decide quickly, if I wanted to continue with this, as otherwise it would loose the momentum. Let me tell of another similar story. During this week, I was working with a partner to deliver a deck. I was really fascinated at how quickly she would process information and make decisions. She told me that sometime she is not sure about the decision that she has made as she does not have all the information. However, she quoted Colin Powell, “Do not delay a decision, because of not all information is available. Question whether the additional information will change a decision made today, and if does not than make it”. I think that in our profession, you have to get used to making decision with limited information - of course the more senior can make decision more quickly then others.
This is what I went through during my flight back. I was not totally convinced about the idea of us, and so I went through a typical risk / reward analysis. With what I had learnt from our couple of interactions, I felt that there was a lot of similarity with us, that things could not really go that wrong. Moreover, this would lay the foundation to a great life experience. It is just how guns are developed - the longer the barrels or two aligned guns (the more the similarity in the foundation) the more likely the bullets will stay together once fired!
And, it is not just that our backgrounds are the same. In the recent communications we have had, I have see a lot similarities in our likes, our dislikes, our outlook of life, etc. But, does that mean that I know you in totality? No! In fact, I will probably never know you to that extent, and probably should not. I have no idea what your favorite color is, what is your favorite food, what is your favorite place to live or who your best friend is, etc. the question I had on my mind was that knowing what I did know, could I take the risk?
That is when I believed that there is definitely a potential. There is just so much that can go right with this. It was not a perfect, and yes there I know there were certain questions I had that could make things go wrong, but they were issues that I had encountered earlier in my life and I just had to overcome them. Even though, I saw the potential, I should not have told you, even though the latter would be atypical of me. As to how we will deal with the issue of distance and time, I do not know now. We could just playing the waiting game. May be we will see options as time goes by?
Dealing with the potential is probably the best decision I will make in this lifetime. Time will tell whether it will materialize, and if does materialize if it will be good decision.

Por diferentes razones, en los días anteriores tuve tiempo libre en horarios de oficina. Intenté ir a ciertos lugares que normalmente visito en otros horarios y días. Cuál fue mi sorpresa cuando intenté buscar un lugar para mi coche y después de dar entre 3 y 10 vueltas a diferentes manzanas, no había uno solo a la redonda!!! Yo sé que somos muchos en esta Cd. No cabemos. Menos en movimiento a través de las dañadas vías… Y ahora compruebo con la experiencia que tampoco estáticos!
